National Assembly and the Chancellery Work On 2015 Budget

KOENIGSBERG, Prussia (AP) The ministers of the National Assembly and the Chancellery have spent the past few days working on compromises on the budget for the new year. At the forefront of this years budget is military spending & infrastructure. The nation will celebrate its fifth year in existence which means that there are thousands of people now eligible for citizenship having completed their 5th year of service to the Republic.

Ministers from the coastal areas are clamoring for 7 million marks for infrastructure projects that are seen as crucial in their areas. They have been pushing hard for the money the past 6 months.  Also speculation is brewing on whether the PDF commander Major General Paul von Lettow might retire and take up politics.
Some in the Chancellors bloc have suggested that a promotion might be in order to keep him content in the military and out of political life.

The Citizens Voice has been given a copy of the first proposed draft budget from an unnamed ministers aide. Here are a few of the big budget items on the proposal.

  • PM-7,000,000 for coastal infrastructure projects.
  • PM-10,000,000 military arms for the heinleinist faction in Mafeking.
  • PM-1,000,000,000 defense spending increase.
  • PM-230,000,000 military advisory committee budget.
  • PM-260,000,000 roads & highway maintenance.
  • PM-68,000,000 military academy spending increase.

Other items with no specific amount listed are:

  • An endowment for the National Library.
  • An endowment for the National Museum of the Arts.

Other legislation attached:

  • Expansion of the Republic Farm Bureau geared towards an increase in homegrown crops & animals.
  • Review of the Republic Service Centers Administration Board.
  • Also a section entitled Area 511 was included but was blacked out to hide its contents.

Baltic States Beefing Up Military Over Russian Invasion Fears

JANES DEFENSE WEEKLY, London: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland announced plans today to purchase M1 Abrams Tanks from the United States.  Concern is growing that Russia might try to invade their territory as they have done in Ukraine.  The first shipments will arrive in Poland this week from US military bases in Germany.  Below are some pictures of US M1 tanks.

2 of these models will be set aside for skirmish gaming while the other 2 will be based up for Brigade level warfare.

STOP THE PRESSES!

BLOG OWNER: Fellow wargamers.  Due to the current events in geopolitics I cannot, FOR THE TIME BEING, continue to portray my former Soviet Oblast as a close ally of Russia.  While I have no personal problem with the Russian reconquest of Crimea, I do have objections to their current operations in Eastern Ukraine.  In other words since there does exist, however remote a chance that NATO could come to blows with Russia in the near future. I must put the Pro-Russian parts of my 6mm Republic away, temporarily. I don't have a problem gaming cold war gone hot scenarios as it is not current.  I don't mind the fact that a new "Cold War" could or has come about, I grew up in one and the world seemed much more stable at that time, however insane that may sound, and once the Ukraine situation resolves perhaps we can resume.

INSTEAD: Attention will now turn to the Prussian Defense Forces operations in Southwest Africa and Baltic Europe until such time that "The 6mm Republic of Prussia" can again take up arms with their Russian comrades in Karakistan.

Prussian Government Endorses Russian Annexation

Koenigsberg (AP):  The Prussian National Assembly today passed a bill in support of the Russian annexation of the Crimea.  News of the endorsement comes as no surprise in the West since Russia is the closest ally and main benefactor of the Heinleinist republic.  A Prussian minister of Russian descent from the town of Cranz remarked that this is great news not only for Russia but for all the Commonwealth.

In other news Gazprom announced a reduction in the price of gas sold to Prussia.  Gazprom provides energy supplies for the Prussian Army serving in Karakistan.  Gazprom owns several petrol stations operating in Prussia and announced a lowering of gasoline prices there as well.

SF Falcon & Lt. Dmitri Britonov

Krozny, Karakistan, (AP): The advance elements of the 1st Combat Brigade of the Prussian Defense Force arrived in Krozny today aboard Russian Air Force military airlift flights from Koenigsberg, Prussia.  Prussia provides combat forces in Karakistan as part of it's commitment to it's major ally Russia.  Pictured below are members of Strike Force Falcon, part of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Combat Brigade.  The current deployment cycle of Prussian Army forces in Karakistan is for 2 years.  SF Falcon is moving out from the airport in Krozny, making their way south to Camp Condor, the Prussian Army base in Southern Karakistan.  SF Falcon is led by 1LT. Dmitri Britonov.  As you can see from the picture the PDF has abandoned it's former field gray uniforms for a more modern camouflage.  Note the Prussian flag patch on the leading soldier.

Strike Force Hawk Returns Home

The 3rd Combat Brigade has ended it's tour of duty in Karakistan and has been replaced by the 1st Combat Brigade.  Strike Force Hawk returns home following an intense 2 years in Karakistan.  Their last year under Lt. Dmitri Britonov.  More to come on the 1st Combat Brigade and SF Falcon.

Map of the Republic of Mafeking

The Mafeking Republic located in Southern Africa between Botswana and South Africa.  Each political faction areas are indicated, HNP for the Heinlein Nationalists, MNF for the Mafeking Nationalist Front and the southern area controlled by the Mafeking government in Duharrare.  President Mukofos government in Duharrare is propped up by South Africa, a former enemy but now close friend.  The MNF is supported by Venezuela, Cuba and China.  While the HNP of course is funded by Prussia and recognized as legitimate by Prussia and the Netherlands.  Recognition from Russia is dependent upon an HNP victory in the civil war.

New National Assembly and Chancellor Elected.

Koenigsberg (AP): The Chief Counsel of Prussia Brigitta Olson swore in the new National Assembly today and a few hours later she welcomed the new and first female Chancellor of Prussia, Frieda von Moltke a descendant of the famous Prussian General.  Chancellor von Moltke was a dark horse candidate.  It was assumed that Conrad Hekel the former first Chancellor would win re-election easily.  Frieda put together a winning combination of ministers and won by the narrowest margin yet.

Chancellor Frieda von Moltke and the new Prussian Cabinet.
Vowing to continue with outgoing Chancellor Jaap von Huack's budget program she has quickly gained popularity and has announced her administration will set monthly budget expenditures.  She has promised the Defense Force further funding for the repair of infrastructure and equipment at home garrisons and overseas posts but stopped short of promising further military spending.  It appears her current military program will be to "make due." However events in Africa and Karakistan may quickly force her hand.
